Major Process Suppliers

There are three major suppliers to the coil coating industry. They are the chemical and coating manufacturers, the metal suppliers and the equipment manufacturers.  While coatings and chemicals are almost always purchased by the coater, metal can supplied by the end user or an intermediary.  In such cases, the coater is providing a service rather than a product and the service is known as toll coating.

Coil coaters who purchase their own metal are said to be selling a "Package" coated product.

There are substantial differences in the skill levels and equipment capabilities of each coil coating line.  This is not a "one size fits all" market and many of the more successful suppliers have acquired personnel with coil coating experience to insure that their products are properly used.  Even with this added investment, fairly substantial costs can be absorbed by the suppliers to reimburse coaters for materials and coating line time lost in trials and substandard product.

Major Equipment Suppliers

Coaters spend a substantial amount of money each year purchasing rolls.  Coating Rolls, Strip Transport Rolls, Squeegee Rolls and a variety of other rolls are all necessary parts of a coating line.  Coaters will also purchase machinery to increase the capability of their line for new markets or simply to upgrade existing equipment for quality and reliability reasons.  New Amsterdam knows the coaters and their equipment needs.  This often proves valuable to those suppliers looking to expand their business.

Most new equipment is sold on a conditional basis with the final payment not due until the equipment is fully operational and certified.  Using trained and experience personnel from New Amsterdam for this important aspect of their business, frees valuable and costly engineering time in addition to completing purchase agreements in a more timely manner.
